About

Pippa Patiño (Philippa Olivia Bowyer) is an Ecuadorian artist based in Berlin. She spent her early childhood between Ecuador and the United Kingdom before moving to Berlin with her mother. Raised by a young Ecuadorian artist and single mother, she grew up, shifting between different cultural, social, and geographical contexts. These formative experiences continue to inform her interest in perception, perspective, and ways of inhabiting multiple realities. She is currently completing her Diploma in Painting at Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin. In 2024, she studied at La Esmeralda, the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Printmaking in Mexico City, where she expanded her engagement with Latin American artistic contexts. Alongside her visual practice, she is part of the Latin American music trio Son de Maracuyá. In 2025, the group performed at the Interfilm Festival Berlin at Volksbühne, providing a live musical accompaniment to a short film.

My paintings are not illustrations of linear ideas, but experiential spaces in which memory, emotion, and observation unfold into autonomous visual worlds. Within my practice, I work with the playful, the absurd, and the poetic as modes of connection and resistance. Figures, masks, and hybrid beings recur throughout my work, shifting between myth, dream, and everyday life. These entities move through pictorial environments shaped by vivid colour, organic form, and fragmented narrative structures. Painting remains the foundation of my practice. Even when works extend into sculpture, textiles, performance, or sound, they originate from a painterly way of thinking. This results in pictorial bodies that move between surface and space, as seen in recent explorations with puppetry, where painted figures gain physical presence and movement.

My work often functions as a stage, where visual and spatial elements converge. Within these environments, perception is destabilised, play is treated as a serious mode of inquiry, and the image becomes a lived space of experience.
